Match Preview: Newcastle vs Bournemouth

17th January 2025 | By Josh Holloway

This weekend, our Cherries are traveling all the way up to St James’ Park—armed with bare bones and many many travel sickness tablets.

Iraola’s army has demonstrated incredible levels of resilience and fighting spirit, despite battling a ridiculous number of injuries.

This article will explore whether he and the boys could pull off yet another tour de force.

Recent Form

Both teams are in strong form. Bournemouth haven’t lost since the 23rd of November. During that time, they’ve defeated Spurs, demolished the lesser side of Manchester, and, most recently, held off Brighton’s spare change.

Newcastle, on the other hand, are a fearsome force to behold. They’ve won nine games straight across all competitions, including victories against United, Tottenham, Arsenal, Villa, and Brentford.

Cherries’ legend Eddie Howe will undoubtedly be feeling confident about his chances of defeating his former club.

Players to Watch

For Bournemouth, Dango Ouattara has been an exciting player to watch recently. His speed and directness have brought a new dynamic to the team, and his versatility has seen him play all over the pitch.

For the Magpies, Alexander Isak is the player to keep an eye on. Let’s hope that Huijsen and Zabarnyi can keep the Swedish sniper away from the net.

Bournemouth Away

Bournemouth have performed well on the road this season, with four wins, four draws, and only three losses outside of the Vitality Stadium. Their last five away fixtures include wins against Manchester United and Everton, along with draws against Chelsea, Fulham, and Crystal Palace.

Newcastle Home

Newcastle have been dominant at St James’ Park this season, losing just once in the Premier League. They’ve scored an impressive 18 goals in 10 home games, making it one of the toughest grounds for visiting teams.

MATCH Predictions

All good things must come to an end, and that applies to the Magpies too. While I’d love to predict that we can collapse Newcastle’s good form and extend our unbeaten run to 10 games, it’s going to be a tough match given our lack of depth.

Still, I have faith that Iraola can work his magic once again.
