AFC Bournemouth vs Nottingham Forest: Match Preview

25th January 2025 | By Euan Thomas

The Cherries take on Nottingham Forest today at the Vitality Stadium, with both teams looking to extend their unbeaten runs.

Introduction:

Iraola’s men come into this game having avoided defeat in their last 10 Premier League matches, with only Liverpool (17) and Arsenal (12) boasting better runs. Today’s opposition are on a spell of nine games unbeaten, setting up for a fascinating encounter.

Off the back of an impressive 4-1 win away at Newcastle, Cherries fans have every right to be excited. Justin Kluivert put in a brilliant performance to take the match ball at St James’ Park, with Milos Kerkez also scoring late in the game. Another result like that one could mean so much for AFC Bournemouth’s season and the prospect of European football next season.

Following the trip to Tyneside, Iraola has confirmed there are no new injury concerns. Marcus Tavernier is back in full training, though still unavailable.

A win against Forest could see Bournemouth finish the day as high as 5th place, depending on how Man City and Newcastle get on.

Today's Opponents:

This game won't be an easy test. Nuno Espirito Santo has guided his team to new heights in the Premier League, sitting 3rd after 22 games with 44 points. Forest have also won the most points of any Premier League team in the last 10 matches, picking up 25 points and winning eight. With one of the best defenses in the league so far, the AFC Bournemouth attack will have to be on top form to find any kind of joy.

Nuno also has the likes of Chris Wood and Anthony Elanga at his disposal, both of whom can provide a considerable threat. Wood is enjoying a superb season so far. His tally of 14 league goals equals his joint-best scoring season, matching the 2023/24 and 2019/20 seasons. Only three players have scored more this season than the New Zealand-born striker, and he’ll be looking for more against Bournemouth.

Match Prediction:

With both teams on long unbeaten runs, it seems set for a tight game as the two battle to keep their records intact. Forest have a great away record and I do see them scoring. The Cherries also have a good home defensive record this season, and I think they can get at least one goal in this game. The likes of Semenyo and Kluivert will be important in this match.

I’m going to predict a 1-1 draw.
